*** About The Alamo: The Alamo, originally known as Misión San Antonio de Valero, was founded in the 18th century as a Roman Catholic mission and fortress compound. It is most famous for the Battle of the Alamo in 1836, an epic confrontation during the Texas Revolution where a small group of Texan defenders, including James Bowie and Davy Crockett, fought bravely against General Antonio López de Santa Anna's much larger Mexican army. Although the Texan defenders were ultimately defeated, "Remember the Alamo" became a rallying cry for Texan independence and perseverance. Today, the Alamo is a museum and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Texas, drawing millions of visitors each year who come to honor its rich history and pay tribute to the heroes who fought for freedom.:
